Located in southwestern Ontario, the City of Cambridge is one of the fastest growing areas in the country, and has a diverse economic base with leading industries in advanced manufacturing, automotive, technology, pharmaceutical, business and financial services, hospitality and retail.

  About Project

The City of Cambridge Economic Development website provides developers and investors with information and tools to learn about Cambridge’s economic assets and opportunities. After conducting several stakeholder focus groups, City staff, in collaboration with eSolutionsGroup, created an intuitive, service-oriented sitemap reflecting the unique needs of the business community. Several tools make gathering data about the City easier: a report builder to generate a custom data report for download; a searchable business directory; and an available sites and buildings listing using real-time MLS data. Staff enlisted the help of eSolutionsGroup to create content that meets the needs of those looking to build, invest and grow a business in the City. The content also incorporates web writing best practices using simple language and accessible formatting.

Economic Development staff contributes content to the site using the i:Create web content management system, with a built-in accessibility checker ensuring compliancy to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 standards as per the Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA). Staff members build simple, user-friendly, accessible forms using a form-building tool, without requiring programming knowledge.

To reach the largest number of investors possible on their website, visitors can translate the content into 100+ languages using Google Translate. BrowseAloud assistive technology offers speech, reading and translation support for those with English as a Second Language, Dyslexia, low literacy, and mild visual impairments.
