Early 2020, Experience Columbus, Columbus, Ohio’s convention and visitor’s bureau, was planning their new visitor campaign for the year, entitled “Live Forward”—which was to be reflective of the forward-thinking and progressiveness of the city. Then COVID-19 hit. The CVB took a pause as the city, and the entire nation, shut down in the wave of the global pandemic.
In April, as the Ohio governor was starting to release plans for reopening the state, Experience Columbus realized a need to help their tourism partners safely reopen and encourage visitation from residents to boost the local economy. The Live Forward campaign they had been planning took on a new meaning as they revisited it through the lens of COVID-19—it was now about promoting optimism and how the city and its residents can look and live forward beyond COVID-19.
As the solution to making visitors feel comfortable exploring the city again, Fahlgren Mortine and Experience Columbus developed the “Live Forward Pledge,” where local businesses promised to adhere to health and safety standards laid out by the CDC, Ohio Department of Health and any industry-specific governing body.
